The early-career professional
Two years in and ready for responsibility your job won't give you yet. Lead a team, speak in public, learn to manage people before you're managing them for pay.
JCI New York is for young active citizens aged 18–40 who would rather build the thing than complain about it. Membership puts you in charge of a real project, a real team and a real budget.
Why join
Most leadership programs teach you about leadership. JCI hands you a committee, a deadline and a budget, then gets out of the way. Mistakes are allowed. Standing on the sidelines is not.
Lead early
Chair a project team or run an event within your first twelve months. Nobody makes you wait your turn.
Build a network that works
Founders, policy people, nurses, engineers, artists. Everyone in the room is trying to get something done.
Go as far as you want
Local (JCI New York) to national (JCI USA) to global (World Congress, UN side events).
If you're between 18 and 40 and you live, work or study in the New York area, you qualify. Your résumé doesn't matter. Your willingness to show up does.
Two years in and ready for responsibility your job won't give you yet. Lead a team, speak in public, learn to manage people before you're managing them for pay.
Building something and tired of networking events where nobody builds anything. Find co-founders, advisors and first customers who already trust you.
Your research deserves an audience beyond your department. Turn it into policy briefs and projects, and meet people outside academia.
Switching fields at 30 or 35 is not a late start. Practice the new job inside a project team, with real outcomes to show for it.
New city, no list of people to call. Within a month you'll have a team, a standing Thursday and someone to ask which borough to move to.
If you're 18–40 and want to do something useful for this city, you're who we mean. Come to an event first and see.
Chair a team, set the goals, own the result. It goes on your record and in your stories.
Public speaking, facilitation, budgeting, negotiation. Practiced on live projects, not slides.
